PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of fixing the terminal of an optical fiber which is easily compatible to the alternation of the types in a production of many kinds in small quantity, and by which the damage of the terminal of the optical fiber, a receptacle or the like at the time of assembly is prevented and the maintenance cost is suppressed. SOLUTION: When the terminal 4 of the optical fiber in which a coated optical fiber 4a and ferrule 4b are integrated is fixed to an optical system unit, the terminal 4 of the optical fiber and a first member 2 are integrated by fixing the ferrule 4b to the first member 2, a waveguide substrate 6 on which an optical semiconductor element is mounted is positioned and fixed on a second member 3, the integrated terminal 4 of the optical fiber and the first member 2 are mounted on the second member 3, the coated optical fiber 4a is fixed on the waveguide substrate 6, an optical subunit is formed by fixing the coated optical fiber 4a derived from the first member 2 to the waveguide substrate 6, and the optical system subunit is mounted on the optical system unit 1.
