PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stroboscope constituted so that reflected light from the stroboscope may not directly return to a lens in the case of photographing a planar subject whose surface is smooth and whose reflectance is high such as a white board, a mirror or glass by using the stroboscope. SOLUTION: When the subject is planar substance whose surface is smooth and whose reflectance is high such as the white board or when the subject approaches to the glass or the mirror, there is a risk that a white part that tone is not reproduced at a low density part on a picture is caused because electronic flash light (h) is reflected on the white board or the mirror and becomes the reflected light hR, and is directly made incident on the lens. Then, a photographer operates a changeover switch 30 so as to start a reflection preventing mode, whereby the irradiation angle of the stroboscope is changed to prevent the reflected light hR from being directly made incident on the lens 14. Thus, the white part is avoided. At such a time, a recommendable distance from the subject is designated in advance, and an optimum angle in accordance with the photographic distance is set. To put is concretely, when the photographic distance L is about 2 m, the white part caused by the reflected light hR is avoided by inclining the stroboscope upward or downward by an angleθ=3 to 5°.
