PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in a conventional field information generating method used in an electronic form generating device for a document image plane wherein there is no function of automatically generating field information corresponding to a character entry area indicated on a paper document by an underline, and field information generating efficiency is poor. SOLUTION: The field information corresponding to the character entry area indicated on the paper document by the underline can be automatically generated by the field information generating method having an independent horizontal line segment extracting stage of extracting an independent horizontal line segment on the basis of a character string and ruled line database storing pieces of information corresponding to character strings and ruled lines on the paper document, and a field candidate generating stage of generating a field candidate determining field left lower end coordinates and a field width on the basis of the extracted independent horizontal line segment.
