The method involves providing a visual image of the surroundings or its digital data, preferably a color visual image showing the visible objects and an infrared image or data of the environment showing visible and/or other objects. The visual image or data is acquired by a camera (101) sensitive in the visible spectral range. The infrared image or data is acquired by a camera (102) sensitive in the infrared spectral range.
