An authoring method for creating an audiovisual product. The method has thre e main stages. The first stage defines components (201) implicitly representin g functional sections of audiovisual content and transitions (202) that represent movements between components (201). The second stage expands the components (201) and transitions (202) to provide a set of explicitly realis ed AV assets (120) and an expanded intermediate datastructure of nodes (110) an d links (132, 134). Each node (110) is associated with one of the AV assets (120) and the links (132, 134) represent movement from one node (110) to another. The third stage creates the audiovisual product in a predetermined output format, using the AV assets (120) and the expanded intermediate datastructure of the nodes (110) and the links (132, 134).
