The invention relates to a process for dry separating tenaciously elastic materials such as plastics and rubber from materials tearing and/or defiberizing under high mechanical stress, particularly paper, and to a device for performing said process. The process is characterized in that the mixture of materials to be separated is conveyed, substantially in the form of a composite into a screen basket (1) wherein it is subjected to high radial, axial and tangential acceleration forces, whereby a mass flow of shredded fibrous material is defibered in the screen basket (1) and the defibered material, particularly paper is withdrawn through holes (2) in the screen basket (1) jacket, while the tenaciously elastic materials remain inside the screen basket (1) and at the end thereof they are withdrawn therefrom as a separated flow in substantially non-disintegrated state. The apparatus for performing the above-described process consists of a screen basket (1) which is cylindrical or preferably polygonal in shape and has on its inlet side an inlet hole (7) for materials to be separated and at the opposite end having an outlet hole (2) for discharge of the tenaciously elastic materials, whereby the holes (2) have on the screen basket (1) inner side sharp edges. Inside said screen basket (1) there is coaxially mounted a rotatable driving shaft (2) having blades (4) for adjustable rotational speed within the range of 1000 to 2000 rpm. |
