PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side member of a vehicle frame which is suitable for mass production at a low manufacturing cost, and easy in change and maintenance during the use while keeping advantages of a hybrid tube, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: A steel tube and a hybrid tube connected to the steel tube and disposed between the steel tube and a bumper are provided as a side member of a vehicle frame with the bumper connected to one end thereof. The hybrid tube has a double structure composed of an aluminum tube and a glass fiber reinforced composite material tube formed on the outer circumferential surface of the aluminum tube. A method for manufacturing the side member comprises a step of forming the hybrid type of the double structure composed of an internal aluminum tube and an external glass reinforced fiber composite tube, and a step of connecting the hybrid tube to the steel tube.
