PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for an aircraft capable of effectively using oxygen enriched air from an air separation part, reducing an engine load, performing a fail-safe function, and allowing a proper operation according to a flight condition. SOLUTION: A plurality of cooling units A changeable between an operation state and a stop state mutually independently generate cold air introduced into a cabin 8 by expanding the air compressed by a compressor 3 by an expansion turbine 5. A plurality of compression units B changeable between an operation state and a stop state mutually independently are provided with premixing compressors 17 compressing the outflow air from the cabin 8. A mixture of engine extraction air and the air compressed by the premixing compressor 17 is compressed by the compressor 3 and separated into nitrogen enrichment gas and oxygen enriched air by a permselective membrane. The setting of the number of cooling units A in the operation state and the number of the compression units B in the operation state can be changed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
