A method of electronically distributing music and other entertainment content is disclosed. A music or other entertainment sample is sent (656) by a sender and received as an attachment to an email. The recipient also receives a link to a source of purchase (666) of the full music selection. If the recipient purchases (670) the full music selection, the sender is compensated (674) based on the purchase (670). In one embodiment, the full music selection is embodied as part of the music sample file and can be purchased by decryption. In another embodiment, the full music selection is delivered as a download from the Internet after payment. In other embodiments, the music sample is embodied as a link to a streaming music sample.
