OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM AND RECORDING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase changing type optical recording medium capable of high density recording in a wide range of linear speeds from 3.5 m/s to about 20 m/s at the highest in recording linear speed, especially double speed to quintuple speed (7.0 to 17.5 m/s) of DVD, and further to provide the phase changing type optical recording medium which is easy in initial crystallization and excellent in repetitive characteristics and preservation characteristics, and its recording method.

SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium having, as a principal component of a recording layer, a phase changing recording material which causes a reversible phase change from a crystalline phase to a non-crystalline phase by radiating an electromagnetic wave, the recording material is represented by a composition formula XαGeβMnγSbδTeε (in the formula, X represents Ga and/or Sn, α, β, γ, δ, and ε represents atom.% and α+β+γ+δ+ε=100), and respective components satisfy requirements of 0≤α≤5, 1≤β≤5, 1≤γ≤10, 65≤δ<80, 15≤ε≤25 and α≤γ.
