The container, comprising a base (20) holding the product with a mesh layer (30) able to slide up and down above it, has a support (40) for the mesh layer which surrounds the product and compresses as the amount diminishes, so that a constant quantity can be taken up on an applicator pad or finger applied to the mesh layer. The compressible support is made from a material with a residual deformation preferably above 70 per cent.
