PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of a titanium oxide photocatalyst without adding a transition metal or the like that is conventionally carried out for improving the efficiency of the photcatalyst. SOLUTION: The method for producing a photocatalytic titanium dioxide comprises forming TiO<SB>2</SB>with a thickness of 100-200 nm on a substrate and then partially forming Ti<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>by evaporation on the TiO<SB>2</SB>film so as to improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO<SB>2</SB>. Also, the method for producing the photocatalytic titanium dioxide may comprise forming TiO<SB>2</SB>by laser evaporation at a substrate temperature of 400-600°C in oxygen-containing atmosphere and then depositing Ti<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>by vacuum evaporation.
