PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent changes in the optical properties of a retardation plate attached to a polarizing plate even when the polarizing plate is stored for a long period of time.

SOLUTION: The polarizing plate comprises a retardation plate having optical anisotropy, a first transparent protective film, a linearly polarizing film, and a second transparent protective film in this order. The moisture permeation amount of the entire structure excluding the retardation plate from the polarizing plate is specified to <5 g/m2/day.
