In an electrical device, which is fed by a mains voltage, it is necessary to ensure that if the mains voltage fails in the case of a malfunction, defined data is stored in a memory (SP), and in particular that the memory (SP) is reliably erased. The electrical device (G) includes a generator (GE) which is driven mechanically by a driving device (A). In the case of a malfunction, the driving device (A) activates the generator (GE), to generate an operating voltage (U) for the memory (SP) and a memory control part (SA), so that defined data can be stored in the memory (SP). The arrangement can be used where a defined memory content must be set in the case of a malfunction, and in particular where the memory (SP) must be erased. <IMAGE>
