A sheet-film separation device has a separating element (8) which pushes an uppermost sheet film (12) of a sheet-film stack (7) against a fixed stop (2c) and is pretensioned by bulging out. Opposite the fixed stop (2c) there is arranged a guide channel (6) which is arranged in the sheet-film plane of the topmost sheet film (12) and tapers in a funnel-shaped manner, directed towards downstream conveying rollers (9). The separating element (8) is guided along a fixed guide path (14) in such a manner that when an adequate pretension of the sheet film (12) to be separated is reached, it is suddenly lifted from said sheet film. As a result of its intrinsic elasticity, the sheet film (12) springs forwards towards the conveying rollers (9) and moves, floating on an air cushion produced between the topmost sheet film (12) and the sheet film lying below it, through the guide channel (6) to the conveying rollers (9). <IMAGE>
