PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately ensure welding intervals by a simple structure in a joint-section backing ring for a steel pipe for the structure. SOLUTION: In the joint-section backing ring 2 for the steel pipe for the structure used in the case of the relay welding of the steel pipe 1 for the structure, the joint-section backing ring 2 is constituted by installing a plurality of projecting bodies 4, which have an outside diameter specifying the welding intervals and in which notched stepped sections 4a are formed at base end sections, on the outer peripheral surface of a ring body 3 having an outside diameter slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the steel pipe 1 for the structure under an upright state. In the backing ring 2, weld metal sections at the base end sections of the projecting bodies 4 are equalized to the outside diameter of the projecting bodies 4 specifying the welding intervals by resistance-welding the projecting bodies 4 to the ring body 3.
