PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the setting of a governor lever 1 without the necessity for the alignment of a pivoting cylinder 4. SOLUTION: In the governor of an engine in which both side plates 2a, 2b and 3a, 3b opposing the governor lever 1 with each other are provided, cylinder fitting holes are formed in both the side plates, the pivoting cylinder 4 is fitted in the cylinder fitting holes and the pivoting cylinder 4 is fitted into a governor lever shaft 5 to support the governor lever 1 swingingly, a single and long cylinder penetrating the cylinder fitting holes of both the side plates in series is used as the pivoting cylinder 4 to form a groove 6 continuing circumferentially at the circumference center of the governor lever shaft 5, therefore contacting parts 7, 7 with predetermined widths L positioning between the edge of the groove 6 and the edge of the pivoting cylinder are formed at both sides of the groove 6, and the outer perimeter of the governor lever shaft 5 is brought into surface-contact with the inner perimeter of the pivoting cylinder 4 at a pair of the contacting parts 7 and 7 of both the sides.
