PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas meter equipped with a failure diagnostic function. SOLUTION: A rotational movement of a permanent magnet 1 rotated in a definite direction by drawing a loop-shaped (oval-shaped) track is detected by two reed switches 2A, 2B. The falls of detection signals PA, PB from the reed switches 2A, 2B are detected by a fall detection part 7 so as to output fall detection signals XA, XB. Since in a normal state, the detection signals PA, PB are output alternately from the two reed switches 2A, 2B, an abnormality judgement part 11 judges that an abnormality such as a failure, a disconnection or the like is generated in the reed switches from which the detection signals PA, PB are not output when the detection signals PA, PB are output continuously A D from any from among the reed switches 2A, 2B.
