PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal head in which wear resistance and heat resistance, heat response of a protective film for protecting a heat generator layer are simultaneously improved. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head comprises a board 1, a heat generator layer 3 formed on the board 1, electrodes 4, 4' for supplying a current to the layer 3, and a protective film formed of an insulator made on the layer 3 and the electrodes 4, 4' and having an energy band width of 2.3 to 3.0eV and in which its covalent bond of main ingredients of carbon or silicon having at least amorphous quality is strong. The protective film contains 0.01 to 20 mole % of hydrogen, halogen element or silicon. |
