The invention relates to a method for recovering data in a data processing system (1) according to which a recovery is exclusively effected in predetermined units or installations. A recovery program (3) is run on the data processing system (1), whereby a testing procedure of given hardware features of the data processing system (1) is conducted and all features that are characteristic of the data and of the system are stored in a control file of the recovery program (1).
