METHOD FOR SEARCHING PATH MTU IN IP NETWORK AND DEVICE THEREFOR

PURPOSE: A method for searching a path MTU(Maximum Transmission Unit) in an IP network and a device therefor are provided to generate a test message having MTU size of a next link, and to transmit the test message to a receiving node, thereby quickly determining a PMTU(Path Maximum Transmission Unit). CONSTITUTION: A source node(510) transmits divided packets to a destination node(550). The first node(520) generates an ICMP(Internet Control Management Protocol) packet too big message, and transmits the generated message to the source node(510). The second node(530) generates an ICMP packet too big message, and transmits the generated message to the source node(510), and generates an ICMP-PMTUD(Path Maximum Transmission Unit Discovery) minimizing packet to transmit the packet to the destination node(550). The third node(540) generates an ICMP packet too big message, and transmits the message to the source node(510), and generates an ICMP-PMTUD minimizing packet to transmit the packet to the destination node(550). The source node(510) divides packets, and transmits the divided packets.
