PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image recorder for drawing an image with a micro spot light using a blue semiconductor laser as a light source in which a good gradation image can be outputted from highlight to a high density region. SOLUTION: An exposure system is provided with a spot shape regulating section and varies the spot shape sequentially depending on an output image. More specifically, a small diameter laser spot is employed for image exposure from highlight to a halftone region and a large diameter laser spot is employed from halftone to a high density region.
