<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pig for cleaning or coating the inside of a pipe capable of generating stronger rotary motion on the basis of patent disclosure No. 2001-191045 to perform stronger and effective cleaning, forming a uniform dense coating film and good in user's convenience in a bent part, or the like, and a cleaning or coating method for the inner surface of piping using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The pig 1 for cleaning or coating the inner surface of piping has a columnar part 2 the outer diameter D of which is 50-90%, further desirably 70-85% of the effective inner diameter P of piping 4 to be cleaned or coated and has two - six grooves 5, which are spirally carved in the side surface of the columnar part 2 and have a depth H which is 5-20%, further desirably 10-15% of the outer diameter D and a width W which is 10-40%, further desirably 20-30% of the outer diameter D and the angleαof inclination of which with respect to the axial line of the pig is 20-40°.
