Device for preventing the production of an ignitable gas mixture during deep boring in mining operations comprises a gas collecting unit joined to the end of a borehole pipework and connected to a measuring device for determining the gas concentration, a blocking head (10) connected in the gas-tight manner to the end of the borehole pipework, and a connection opening (14) for a feed line for a gaseous or liquid medium. Preferred Features: Several spray nozzles (13) are distributed around the periphery of the blocking head.
