<p>The invention relates to a two-dimensional ionising particle detector comprising a matrix of detecting fibres, each detecting fibre forming a pixel of the detector. One detecting fibre comprises a glass capillary which is filled with liquid scintillator having a chemical composition which is selected such that the mean free path of primary scintillation photons is negligible compared to the diameter of the capillary (d).
