(a) Metal complexes of (substituted) azobarbituric acid (I) or their tautomers with scandium (Sc), yttrium (Y) and lanthanide metals, except lanthanum (La), and (b) metal complexes (IIIa, IIIb) of mono- or di-cyanimino-azobarbituric acid of Sc, Y, La and other lanthanide metals are new. (a) Metal complexes of (substituted) azobarbituric acid of formula (I) or their tautomers with scandium (Sc), yttrium (Y), cerium (Ce), praseodymium (Pr), neodymium (Nd), promethium (Pm), samarium (Sm), europium (Eu), gadolinium (Gd), terbium (Tb), dysprosium (Dy). holmium (Ho), erbium (Er), thulium (Tm), ytterbium (Yb) and lutetium (Lu), and (b) cyanimino-azobarbituric acid metal complexes (IIIa; where X = HO) and dicyanimino-azobarbituric acid metal complexes (IIIb; where X = NCHN) of formula (III) are new. R = OH, NH2, NH-CN, arylamino or acylamino; R' = NH2, NH-CN, arylamino or acylamino; R1, R1' = OH or NH2; Z = Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) preparation of new complexes (I) and (III) by complexing azo compounds of formula (I) with a metal salt of the scandium group; (2) pigment preparations containing metal complex(es) (I) or (III) and dispersant(s); (3) production of the preparation by mixing the cited components.
