PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a casing for an engine wherein reducing the weight of a crank case side cover for downsizing, and decreasing the joining area for enhancing the sealing performance at the joining surfaces of the crank case and the crank case side cover in between are embodied. SOLUTION: The casing of the engine is composed of the crank case 4, the crank case side cover 6 with the inner end joined with one end of the crank case 4 and covering a primary deceleration device 26, and a clutch cover 8 joined with the outer end of the crank case side cover 6 and accommodating a clutch 27, wherein the inside diameter d of the joining surfaces 6f and 4f of a clutch surrounding part 6a surrounding the clutch 27 of the crank case side cover 6 and the crank case 4 is set smaller than the outside diameter D of the clutch outer 37 of the clutch 27.
