PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain multi-reflection of ultrasonic waves and to improve image quality of an ultrasonic image in an ultrasonic imaging apparatus having a photo detection type ultrasonic sensor and an ultrasonic transmitting function. SOLUTION: This ultrasonic imaging apparatus includes an ultrasonic wave detecting part 20 for modulating light according to the applied ultrasonic wave, an optical transmission path 13 for guiding light to an ultrasonic detecting part, a driving signal generating circuit 71 for generating a driving signal, a vibrator 72 for generating an ultrasonic wave according to a driving signal generated by the driving signal generating circuit, and an ultrasonic wave transmission path 74 having a first end and a second end, which propagates ultrasonic waves generated by the vibrator from the first end to the second end, and transmits ultrasonic waves from the second end.
