PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display ITO heater which is low in cost and is easily temperature controlled. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display ITO heater (1) is provided with an active liquid crystal cell (12) for optical modulation and a dummy cell (11) for optical compensation having two substrates (13) and liquid crystals (14) held between the substrates (13). The heater (1) is also provided with an electrically conductive transparent layer applicable to one of these substrates. The cell (11) is provided with electrically conductive spacing means (15) which maintain a desired cell gap and make the potential between the two substrates (13) equal.
