PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detecting apparatus capable of surely finding out and tracking an object. SOLUTION: A photographing means 1 of the object detecting apparatus installed at a door 15 tracks and photographs a person 16 moving as shown in 16a, 16b, and 16c in Fig. through panning/tilting/zooming drive. In this case, the object detecting apparatus acquires a fact that the tilt angle, a horizontal angle, of the photographing means 1 gradually changes upward asθ1,θ2,θ3 and a changing speed of the tilt angle is found to discriminate that the person 16 approaches the photographing means 1 of the object detecting apparatus. Further, the object detecting apparatus applies binary processing to pixels included in the photographed image, projects the processed image in directions of the X, Y axes and segments an image area including the prescribed number of extracted points or over in the X, Y axis directions to extract the person 16 from the photographed image.
