PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional optical module which has good coupling efficiency with the necessary irreducible number of components, is small-sized and easily aligned, and has small electric and optical crosstalk. SOLUTION: The bidirectional optical module is constituted by arranging a fiber holding substrate 2 which has a plurality of optical fibers 5 and four leg parts 7 on its reverse side on a substrate 1, arranging a reflector which faces light incidence ends 6a of optical fiber bodies 6 installed on the fiber holding substrate 2 above a surface light emitting element 3, and optically coupling a light receiving element 4 for monitoring and a light receiving element 5 for reception on the substrate by optical branch units 8 and 9 installed in an optical element mount groove 22 formed on the fiber holding substrate 2.
