<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an opening ratio of a liquid crystal device. <P>SOLUTION: Reflection display and transmission display are performed by utilizing an oblique electric field to drive a liquid crystal (area b) in a predetermined area of an non-intersection area. Here, the liquid crystal in the area b is driven and thereby the light passing through the area b when voltage is applied thereto is shaded. Therefore, it is unnecessary to arrange a shading film 22 in the part corresponding to the area b of the 2nd substrate 2b. As a result, a line width S1 of the shading film 22 can be designed thinner than conventional, and this permits to increase the opening ratio. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
