PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain good reproduced signals by a magnetic recording medium formed with magnetic patterns by magnetic transfer from a master carrier for magnetic transfer. SOLUTION: The master carrier 3 for magnetic transfer is provided with a substrate 3a consisting of a magnetic material having the rugged patterns meeting information to be transferred to the magnetic recording medium 2 and a magnetic layer 3b formed on at least projecting parts 31 of the substrate 3a, in which the materials are so selected as to attain a relation 1.0
