The device is for freeing a node (j) in a network incorporating nodes (a-p) which can communicate with each other over alternative routes. A node to be freed is identified and all unused resources are locked in it, so that they cannot be reserved from the network. The resource of the node which are used from the network are identified. The source nodes for the resources are identified. The routes used by the source nodes through the node are identified and are modified by forming new routes through the network which ensure that a new route does not pass through the node. For each route modified, it is verified that the node local resources are freed. They are then locked so that they cannot be allocated or reserved. When all ports in the node are unallocated and locked, the node is locked to close it. |
