<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side air bag device capable of spreading the air bag quickly in a wide range, at least from the waist to shoulder of an occupant, when the vehicle receives a lateral collision and utilizing effectively the gas from an inflator for protection of the occupant. <P>SOLUTION: The side air bag device for protection of the occupant is structured so that the inflator 3 is ignited in conformity to the signal given by an acceleration sensor at collision of the vehicle, and thereby the air bag 1 is spread in the area from the waist to shoulder of the occupant 4 and between these and the side wall of the vehicle body, wherein the air bag 1 is furnished with bulkheads 1a, 1b, 1c to form a flow passage in which the gas from the inflator 3 flows. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
