PURPOSE:To restrain generation of hydrogen gas so as to enhance liquid leakage resistance and improve an electric discharging characteristic even if non- hardening zinc is used by adding a specific compound into an alkaline electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A battery is provided with a negative electrode including powder of zinc or a zinc alloy and an alkaline electrolyte. A beta-diketone compound expressed by a formula I is added into the alkaline electrolyte. In the formula I, R represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy group of a carbon number 1-12. As a result, it is possible to prevent liquid leakage due to generation of hydrogen gas even when preserved at a high temperature with high moisture and to remarkably improve an electric discharging characteristic. |
