PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-arc type mercury lamp restrained from a short lamp life caused by the oxidation of molybdenum metal foil. SOLUTION: This short-arc type mercury lamp has a lamp container made of silica glass comprising an arc tube part and sealing tube parts connected to both ends of the arc tube part; a glass member made of silica glass and embedded inside the sealing tube parts; an external lead extending outward from the sealing tube part; an internal lead extending into a light emission space from the sealing tube part and holding electrode at the tip; a current collecting disc arranged facing the arc tube part side and connected to the internal lead; and a plurality of molybdenum metal foil extending along the longitudinal direction of the outer peripheries of the glass member and electrically connected to the current collecting disc by connecting one end side electrically to the current collecting discs while connecting the other end side to the external leads.
