PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data stream recording device for sufficiently protecting data. SOLUTION: A reception unit 3 sends a data stream obtained by receiving a digital broadcast, to a motherboard 1. The motherboard 1 divides TS packets included in the data stream into two and stores one in an internal memory 33 for contents storage. Further, the motherboard 1 stores a data stream, obtained by substituting dummy packets for the TS packets of the data stream stored in the internal memory 33 for contents storage, in a storage 2 for the motherboard. The value of PID of the dummy packets is a value that the PID of the TS packets of the source data stream never possibly has. In reproduction, the data stream is restored by substituting packets to be thinned out for packets having values that the PID of the TS packets of the source data stream never possibly have in the substituted data stream.
