PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressing tool for inspection which can easily and surely detect the shorting between substrates in a method of manufacturing a plane display device combined with a pair of the substrates. SOLUTION: There is a process step of inspecting the shorting between both the substrates, i.e., the latent shorting between the substrates (common shorting) rising out of pressing, etc., during use by previously pressing a display panel body in order to detect such shorting. A pressing tool consisting of a constant load spring 11 utilizing the rewinding force of a winding take-like leaf spring, a rubber roller 12 and a grip 14 to be gripped by an operator is used as the pressing tool 1 for inspection in this inspection process step. Since the pressing force from the grip 14 is transmitted through the constant load spring 11 to the rubber roller 12, the specified pressing load can be easily and surely applied to the display panel body.
