<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic equipment operable with a battery and a power saving method that can reduce the power consumption at a display part. <P>SOLUTION: If a display part case 3 is turned to a closed position and an opening and closing detection part 7 detects the closed position, a BIOS writes each signal in each register in a display controller 14. The display controller 14 turns a backlight off, first in accordance with data written in each register.
