PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive a liquid crystal display element in which liquid crystal layer thickness is reduced so as to improve responsiveness to perform display stably with high display quality without generating flickers or the like. SOLUTION: For a normally white type homogeneous orientation liquid crystal display element, the liquid crystal display element is reset and driven so as to raise the liquid crystal molecule of a liquid crystal layer to a substrate surface between pixel electrodes and attain a black state in a reset period A prior to a display data write period B.
