PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll paper feeder that can use a drive source of small output, can unwind roll paper with appropriate urging force, and can rewind the roll paper in a state without application of urging force by a braking means. SOLUTION: The roll paper feeder, which has roll paper 6 journaled on a rotary shaft 3, a paper feed roller 2 for unwinding the roll paper 6, and a means 10 for rewinding the unwound roll paper, has the braking means 4 capable of urging the roll paper 6 when the roll paper 6 is unwound by the paper feed roller 2 and of canceling the urging on the roll paper when the roll paper 6 is rewound.
