Magnesium diboride is used as the superconducting material at operating temperatures of below 40 K. Preferred Features: The superconducting break has wire form with a round or rectangular cross-section. The wire (3) has a core (3a) made from magnesium diboride with a casing (3b) made from iron or steel. The break is arranged between heat sinks (5, 6).
