THIN FILM POLARIZER AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a film having an excellent polarized light separation characteristic on a substrate in only a film forming process to form a polarizer on the surface of optical parts.

SOLUTION: A thin film polarizer is constituted of a thin film having a polarizing characteristic, which is formed in only the film forming process. The thin film is made of a columnar structure of a metal or a dielectric formed on a transparent substrate. The columnar structure is perpendicular or tilted to the surface of the substrate. A protection film or an antireflection film is easily formed on the surface of the thin film polarizer.
