摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber electrode material capable of maintaining high battery performances without lowering a gas diffusion ability of the electrode even by long-term continuous use, a hydrophilic carbon fiber sheetlike material suitably used for the electrode material and a method for producing the same sheetlike material. <P>SOLUTION: This carbon fiber electrode material has a layer composed of a water-repellent resin and electroconductive fine particles on one surface of the hydrophilic carbon fiber sheetlike material. The contact angle of the surface having the water repellency with water is &ge;108&deg; and the back surface and cross section preferably have water absorbency. The hydrophilic carbon fiber sheetlike material has 0.2-15 g/g water absorbing capacity when the cross section is dipped in water for 5 min. The carbon fiber sheetlike material is obtained by hydrophilizing the carbon fiber sheetlike material according to liquid-phase oxidation or vapor-phase oxidation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
