PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element without display nonuniformity caused by gap change in the circumference of a seal part. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display element, a pair of boards 11 and 12 having electrodes 13 and 14 formed by a transparent conductive film are arranged to face each other while keeping a fixed gap by a spacer 16, the seal part is formed between the boards 11 and 12 to seal liquid crystal 18 and a protection film 19 is formed on an electrode draw-out part 15 formed by the transparent conductive film which is formed at the outside of the seal part 17 and also on the same surface of the electrode part 14. The protection film 19 is made of a material which is obtained by mixing the spacer 20. The protection film 19 is contracted in volume so that both the boards 11 and 12 are pulled. Then the narrowing of the gap is restricted with the spacer 20 and also gap change is prevented in the circumference of the seal part 17. Thus, excellent display quality is obtained in the liquid crystal display element. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
