<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical film by which an improved utilization factor of the light is obtained, scattering characteristics are easily controlled and which exhibits uniform and further prominent scattering characteristics over a large area. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical film comprising a polarization selecting layer selectively transmitting specified polarized light and selectively reflecting or scattering other polarized light formed on a transparent supporting body, a compound expressed by a formula (I) is added to the polarization selecting layer.
