Network-based ordering system and method

A network based ordering system includes client devices respectively associated with a plurality of merchants and users and connected to a server via a network. A product database including a plurality of product data items representing products available from the respective merchants provides records for display on the display of the client devices and a request processor can receive a user order for a product selected from the display. A dispatcher receives the user order from the request processor to transmit the user order to a delivery agent fro delivery of the ordered products to the user. An inventory manager receives the user order from the dispatcher and updates the records in the merchant product database.
