<p>PURPOSE:To provide the ATM switching device and its method to which ATM networks of a different bit cell length are connected. CONSTITUTION:When a cell is sent from an n-bit cell ATM network to an m-bit cell ATM network, part or all information of the n-bit cell is mapped to a predetermined bit location of the m-bit cell, and when a cell is sent from the m-bit cell ATM network to the n-bit cell ATM network, the required part of the part or all of the m-bit cell is mapped to the n-bit cell. Plural mapping patterns and a code to identify each mapping pattern are prepared and the code may be described in a cell when the n-bit cell is sent from the n-bit cell ATM network to the m-bit cell ATM network. When a cell is sent from the m-bit cell ATM network to the n-bit cell ATM network, the identification code described before is read and the required part of the part or all of the m-bit cell is mapped onto the n-bit cell.</p> |
