<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discrimination circuit for substrate which is low in cost, difficult to be duplicated, and generates a numerical value specific of a substrate, and provide a semiconductor device having such a circuit. <P>SOLUTION: The discrimination circuit 304 for substrate is produced, by making use of characteristic fluctuation of a TFT formed on a substrate having an insulating surface. The circuit 304 is provided with a plurality of specific bit-generating circuits, which consist of a plurality of TFTs, respectively, and output one-bit random numbers, with each being based on the characteristic fluctuations of the plurality of TFTs. The circuit 304 generates the numerical value specific of the substrate with the use of the one-bit random number. The circuit 304 may be provided with a circuit, which determines by comparing the numerical value specific of the substrate with an externally inputted identification number. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
